The church of God intends to be there for people in their hour of need, irrespective of faith, especially at the time of death of a family member or friend. The church is there partly to assure the bereaved of God’s love and power which extends over all creation and partly to provide practical help and support.
Every life, including our own, is precious to God. Christians have always believed that there is hope, in death as in life, and that there is new life in Christ after death.
Even those who share such faith find that there is a real sense of loss at the death of a loved one. We will each have had our own experiences of their life and death, with different memories and different feelings of love, grief and respect.

Our churchyards
Great Gaddesden church has two churchyards; The Old Churchyard and the New Churchyard. The New Churchyard came into being in 1999 and is open for Burials and internment of ashes. Anybody living in the Parish has right to be buried or their ashes interred regardless of religious persuasion or none.
The Old Churchyard, which includes the War Memorial, is effectively closed for burials and ashes internment except where a spouse is already buried or their ashes interred.
While the graves are kept neat of respect for those buried there, certain areas of the Old Churchyard have purposefully been left to grow wild to support a diversity of local flora and fauna. The churchyard is often used for community events and includes a footpath linking the Gade Valley with St Margarets, Nettleden and Little Gaddesden.
